Faroe Islands — a group of islands in the North Atlantic with autonomous status within the Kingdom of Denmark. Official languages are Faroese and Danish.
Since 1 April 1948 they have enjoyed home rule under the Home Rule Act. Legislative power is exercised by the unicameral Løgting. Executive power is held by the cabinet led by the Prime Minister (Løgmaður). The Crown is represented by the Danish High Commissioner (Rigsombudsmand). Defense and foreign affairs remain the responsibility of the Danish government.
