British Virgin Islands – a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea, a British Overseas Territory (a territory of the United Kingdom located outside the UK and governed under UK law).

First permanently settled in 1625. Since March 23, 1672 they were incorporated into the colony of the Virgin Islands. After the enactment of the British Virgin Islands Constitution Order 1967, the British Virgin Islands have had internal self-government: residents elect a House of Assembly and a Premier, while external affairs, defense, and internal security remain the responsibility of a Governor appointed by the British monarch on the advice of the UK government.
